The Desert is Blooming
Description
If you are entertaining the idea of getting outside this weekend, this is your sign to go for it. The desert is blooming. This it the most gorgeous time of the year in Southern Utah. Not only for the weather and abundant sunshine, but also for the gorgeous desert blooms that start appearing.
The desert can be an incredibly harsh and unforgiving climate. Despite this, Mother Nature displays a bit of extra beauty for us in the spring as delicate and brilliant colored blooms emerge. Abronia, Spreading Phlox, Indian Paintbrush, Chamber’s Twinpod, Desert Marigold, and Desert Chicory are commonly seen flowering plants. My absolute favorites are the Prickly Pear and Hedgehog Cactus flowers. The colors are so vivid, bright, and rich, that it seems like they were dyed.
Head on out and pick a few of the hikes below to see some of the blooms beginning to emerge. The cactus blooms will usually be out for several weeks.
