Red Fleet Dinosaur Trackway
Description
The Red Fleet Dinosaur Trackway will transport your imagination back in time to the dinosaurs plodding along.
Just past the main entrance to Red Fleet State Park is a well-marked road you will travel down to reach the trailhead. The trail will wind through some sandstone, rock groupings, and junipers. It is pretty but would not be rated the most exciting trail. Suddenly, the trail opens up to an amazing view of the reservoir. There is just something about the blue green water contrasting with the orange sandstone and “Utah blue” sky. Just having this view was worth the hike in.
Stop at the sign that explains where the track groupings are and what you are looking for. The tracks are mostly an “inside-out” version of a track. Picture a dinosaur stepping into sticky mud and the footprint that is left is made from it picking its foot up and pulling the mud upward. There are a few indentations, but most are an elevated track. Once you find a few and know what you are looking for, you will be surprised at how many are there. Wander around and do some track finding, then sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the water before you head back.

Timing: Watch the time of day, limited shade.
Downloaded Map: It was helpful but not required. There are black dinosaur footprints spray painted onto the rocks for occasional trail marking.
Fees: Donations are accepted. I believe the footprints are technically in the State Park, so we had our State Parks Pass available if we needed to show it.
