Black Dragon Pictographs
Description
The Black Dragon Pictograph panel was a really cool stop off of Interstate 70. When heading westbound, there is a turnout after mile marker 147. Go through the gate, close it behind you, continue down the dirt road. Keep to the left and follow the Black Dragon Wash sign.
Depending on the clearance of your vehicle, drive to where you can, park, and continue by foot down the wash. The canyon walls surround you on both sides with impressive coloring, especially the iron deposits that run down the walls. We did not see anyone else, it was a really quiet and almost ethereal setting.
We were able to get close to the pictographs, red in color. We love seeing any pictographs or petroglyphs, and these were some images we have not seen before.
