Gunlock Slot Loop

When we are in Gunlock State Park, we will typically be on the water. If you are choosing a land-based activity while you are there, the Gunlock Slot Loop is a nice hike.

Start along the Gunlock Dam and take in the view of the reservoir. This reservoir is a treat for the hot summer days and not too far outside of Saint George.

Continue downward and enjoy going through some short sections of slot canyon. There are a lot of color variations and textures that add to the natural beauty of the trail. 

Do not attempt this hike when the falls are flowing.

Difficulty: Easy to mild. 

Trail Stats: 2.1 miles, balloon, 196 feet elevation gain.

Trail Finding: Unclear at times, you may need to reference a downloaded map.

Conditions: Sand, rock, packed dirt.

Would I Repeat This: Maybe, if we are driving up that way, my preference is The Vortex.

Parking: Available.

Timing: Weather dependent, do not complete this if it is raining or rain is forecasted.

Downloaded Map: Yes, it would be helpful to have.

Fees:  This hike is within Gunlock State Park. You will need to pay an entrance fee for the park or present your annual State Parks Pass.

Trails: The Vortex is the best one in the area.
